Five Year Indieversary

Previous posts:  one, twothree, and four.

I’m pretty sure today marks my fifth anniversary of self-publishing which means I’ve published books that are older than my youngest daughter. I just barely finished a third series, so maybe that counts (please count) as an achievement?

Reading back on my old posts, I think it’s obvious that the last two years have been more of a struggle than the previous two. I’ll always love writing, and I’m starting to love editing (gasp!), but I’m still kind of hating publishing. My kids are giving me so much hassle about working too much which might be colouring my views a little (and honestly, I’m writing this on a bad day), but even aside from that, I’m just tired of the non-writing/editing things that have to be done. I’m living for the day the kids are old enough for me to guilt-trip emotionally blackmail bribe persuade them to help me. At least one of them has to have better organisational skills than I do, right? 😀

Anyway, what have I done this last year? I just checked, and in the last twelve months, I’m kind of pretty sure I’ve had eight releases (only six were novels though), which is great for me. Two of Stake You, Three Chaos, one Ava, and two Avaverse shorts (yeah, I went there) in case you’re wondering. Oh, and I also posted a full (shitty) novel to Wattpad. Even without that, it’s still over half a million words published (I just quickly did a rough total and wheeeeee, that feels more like an achievement!) If I managed that amount of words even written this year (’cause I delete many, many, holy crap, so many words in the editing process), I would be very happy, put it that way. 2015 has not gotten off to the best start. Still, plenty of time to catch up!

This next twelve month dream plan is to keep holding on by the tips of my fingers, publish the last two Chaos books, the next two Ava’s, and aim for (and likely fail at) one Esther, two VBI, and hopefully, a Halloween crossover, but let’s pretend I didn’t just say that. My true aim is to put the fun back into things – I just need to figure out how. 🙂

Claire you should celebrate! You should totally buy an ostentatious partyliscious crazy ass purple ballgown go out for a night of teenage fun and then after your One Night With The Fae, turn that Fairy dress into your work wear. That would totally bring a smile to everyone’s face that saw you typing away at your keyboard. Maybe inspire a child or two to help their mom out and inspire them to go into the family business. 😀

They all think they’re going to be writers. As a side job though. Lol.

If I win the lotto, I’ll buy the craziest dress I can find, and I’ll use it as my profile pic. 😀

  2. Ehrmagerd! Congrats on the five years. You’re totally an inspiration and there’s going to come a day when you look back on the five-year grind (you know, when you’re on your yacht in the French Riviera?) and be soooo glad you stuck with it! I’m really enjoying reading your series, btw. So, as one of your loyal readers…thanks for putting their worlds into existence!

Oh, yeah, that yacht. Thanks, Megan. If I can fake it for five years, anyone can. 😀

I love your work … im reading break you and then i have nothing left til you produce a new book … i have never stuck with anyone until your books. i love them and once i get started i have to finish. I cant wait til the other chaos & ava books come out … but i so hope Cara & Brendan get together in Chaos and live happily ever after …. that is my dream of the Chaos series ending … they have so much attraction to each other … but i know you wont give out any hints but i dont think i am the only 1 hoping for this … but tyvm for everything you do … i have loved every book u have wrote … enjoy your free time w/ your children …

I wish I could put out super-sized books every week for you. 🙂

I think Chaos will get the right ending. I don’t want to spoil anything, but I hope it will be satisfying! Since Fade, I’ve been imagining what the characters’ lives will be like fifteen or so years into the future, and that’s really helped me lock down the ending for this series.

I’m trying to make time to write a (free) story in Brendan and Drake’s POVs to tide people over between the last two books. A lot happens to both of them between books 5 and 6, and it might make the wait a little less painful. 😉 Blight is with my editor, (and Ava’s going out to the editor next month) but I still have to book in a slot for Sacrifice, (and I feel like things are progressing painfully slow this year) so I don’t have any official release dates yet.
